Postcards From The Wild

In  the first post of my Sikkim Series, I had sort of mentioned that this small erstwhile Himalayan Kingdom that was annexed to the Indian Union in 1975, was one of the few places I have visited that has left a deep impact on me. Starting with the journey through the treacherous roads (Indo-China trade route) to our gradual acquaintance with a matrilineal and crime free society (that had left many readers pleasantly surprised) to the introduction to the state through photographic documentation.

This post with it’s title derived from a favourite childhood show broadcasted by the Discovery Channel simply offers an introduction to the natural flora and fauna of the Khanchendzonga range.

I photographed the following in the Himalayan Zoological Park, a forest reserve covering over 230 hectares at the altitude of 6,545-8,152 feet and managed by the State Forest Department of Sikkim:

The RED PANDA : it took us about half an hour to spot it inside its large enclosure
